Storyline: Thor's retreat is interrupted by a killer known as Gorr the Butcher God, who seeks to exterminate the gods. Storyline

Thor's retreat is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the Butcher God, who seeks to wipe out the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of the Valkyrie King, Korg and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster, who - to Thor's surprise - uses his magic hammer, Mjolnir, inexplicably, as Thor's hero. Together they embark on an epic journey through space to unravel the mystery of God Butcher's revenge and stop him before it's too late.

Gorr and his daughter, Love, the last of their race, are fighting in the barren desert. Despite their prayers to their gods, Rapu, Love dies. Godslayer Necrosword summons Gorr, leading him to Rapu's circle. When Rapu cruelly mocks and rejects Gorr's spell, he rejects the god, causing Rapu to strangle him. The Necrosword gives itself to Gorr, who kills Rapu with it and swears to kill all gods. Gorr has the ability to manipulate shadows and create monsters, but is cursed by death and corruption when under the sword. After Gorr kills the gods, Thor, who joins the Guardians of the Galaxy, [N 1] learns about the distress signal from Sif. He separates from the group and finds an injured Sif, who warns that Gorr's next target is New Asgard. Meanwhile, Dr. Jane Foster, Thor's ex-girlfriend, has been diagnosed with stage four cancer. With medical treatment proving ineffective, he travels to New Asgard in hopes that Thor's hammer, Mjolnir, which Hela once broke, [N 2] can heal him. As a result of Thor's unwitting enchantment years earlier to protect Foster, Mjolnir is reattached to the bond. Thor arrives in New Asgard as the Gorr attack begins. Thor is surprised to see Foster using Mjolnir, but he teams up with Valkyrie and Korg to fight Gorr. The group stops Gorr, but he escapes, kidnaps several Asgardian children and imprisons them in the Shadow Realm. The group travels to the city of Omnipotence to warn the other gods and ask for their help in creating an army. The leader of the gods, Zeus, is afraid of Gorr and does not want to help, thinking that they can stay safe and hide Gorr in the City. Zeus ordered the captives to prevent them from revealing the city's location to Gorr. After Zeus injures the Korg, Thor uses his own thunderbolt to impale Zeus on a tree which Valkyrie steals before escaping Gorr and the Shadow Kingdom. Along the way, Thor learns of Foster's cancer diagnosis and the two rekindle their relationship.

The team arrives at the Shadow Realm but cannot find the children. Foster sees an old painting showing Thor's battle ax Stormbreaker as a way to invite Bifrost into the Eternal Realm and release the trap laid by Gorr. He casts Stormbreaker to prevent Gorr from getting it. However, Gorr overpowers the group and threatens to kill Foster, forcing Thor to call him back. Gorr manages to steal Stormbreaker and injures Valkyrie before a weakened Foster collapses. Back to Asgard Asghard, Thor found that the type of Ter Ter TRES does not allow his body to have cancer. Because of this, Ter Torn goes where the altar of eternal altars, the power of Zeus, using the power of his bug gorr is fighting. When Foster discovers that Gorr is trying to kill Thor, he joins Mjolnir in battle to save him. They destroy the Necrosword, leaving Gorr and his effects, and the three of them are brought to the Realm of the Eternal. As Gorr is about to make his wish, Thor asks Gorr to resurrect his daughter instead of destroying the gods.
